Bitcoin Product Spotlight: Arbiter - Bitwall - Gliph

The Bitcoin and digital currency ecosystem is rapidly growing as engineers and designers are building new tools and products everyday. Some are using Bitcoin in novel ways, others are helping to grow adoption, and some are just fun side projects. As a community it is important to recognize this effort and help others find these products. We will showcase some of our favorites every week.

Arbiter - @ArbiterGaming

Arbiter is an add-on service video game developers can use to monetize their projects in a novel way. Rather than reward users with points or fake in-game money, Arbiter wants to let the player challenge him or herself by staking real money (bitcoin included) and reaping real rewards based on performance. They are careful to note that they are not a gambling service, they simply seek to increase player engagement in respective games by jacking up the risk-reward tradeoff by involving money. Founded by brothers August and Andy Zinsser, Arbiter wants to revolutionize the way we look at skill based single-player games by adding a new dimension of monetary incentive rarely seen in games of this kind before.

Bitwall - @BitWall

Bitwall is a tool for developers enabling them to leverage bitcoin microtransactions to sell “views” for their content at very low prices. You may be prompted “$.01 to read this article” or “$.03 to watch this video” whereas, up to now, credit card fees made these very small transactions unfeasible. BitWall specifically gives its clients’ customers several options when trying to access various content - you may pay for a one time visit, a day long pass, tweet the company to gain access, or waive the fees and enter the site with advertisements. Overall, this is a very promising technology that provides a new revenue generation technique for the many content creators who are struggling with current advertisement and subscription models.

Gliph - @gli_ph

Gliph is both a Craigslist-esque online marketplace, a secure group messenger, and a bitcoin wallet all grouped into one seamless product. Gliph's online marketplace focuses on user privacy and encourages, but doesn’t require, the use of bitcoin. Gliph can be accessed by web or via its iOS and Android apps and seeks to go “above and beyond other online classifieds.” Gliph's in-app messenger enables you contact the seller with questions or to express interest in buying an item. All messages are end to end encrypted with privacy and security a key focus. They also love Bitcoin at Gliph; sellers can choose to offer discounts if buyers will pay in bitcoin to both eliminate the hassle of P2P transactions with fiat money as well as to promote Bitcoin in the mainstream. They feel that this will make the products on their site much more accessible to global buyers and ensures buyer/seller anonymity when desired. While privacy is a major concern of theirs, they stress that the site is not a dark market to be used for nefarious purposes like the Silk Road. The Gliph team has set up a strong and positive user base, and are interviewing prospective sellers before approving them and reviewing every posting before making it visible to the public, for the time being. No drugs or other illegal items are allowed.
